Old Mutual Insurance Uganda continues to support initiatives that contribute to the wellbeing of individuals, families and communities across Uganda. Through strategic partnerships that respond to critical community needs, the company is committed to creating meaningful and sustainable impact beyond its core business.
As part of this commitment, Old Mutual Insurance Uganda, in partnership with Mama Toto Care Uganda and The Rotary Foundation, recently supported Kajjansi Health Centre IV with a blended Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine and a radiant warmer.
The neonatal equipment will strengthen Kajjansi Health Centre IV’s capacity to provide newborn care, particularly for premature, low birth weight and critically ill babies who require specialised support.
The blended CPAP machine will support newborns experiencing respiratory distress by providing regulated oxygen and continuous airway pressure. The radiant warmer will help vulnerable newborns maintain a stable body temperature during treatment, reducing the risk of complications associated with hypothermia.
Together, the equipment will enhance access to essential neonatal care in Wakiso District, strengthening the health centre’s ability to provide timely and appropriate support to newborns who need it most.
Maternal and newborn health remains an important healthcare priority in Uganda. According to the Uganda Demographic and Health Survey (UDHS) 2022, between 14 and 16 mothers and more than 60 newborns lose their lives every day in Uganda.
Dr. Edrin Juuko, Head of Medical Business at Old Mutual Insurance Uganda, while representing the business at the handover event, emphasized that strengthening healthcare services is an important part of supporting the wellbeing of Ugandan families.
“The wellbeing of families begins with access to quality healthcare, particularly at the most critical moments. For a mother and her newborn, access to the right care and equipment can make a significant difference. While Uganda has made progress in improving maternal and newborn health, there is still more to do. Through partnerships such as this, practical interventions can strengthen healthcare delivery and improve outcomes for families,” he added.
The support to Kajjansi Health Centre IV forms part of the Mama Toto Care Uganda programme, an initiative of The Rotary Foundation focused on reducing preventable maternal and newborn deaths by strengthening health facilities and improving access to quality care.
