Access to safe drinking water is essential to the health, wellbeing and development of children. Recognising the important role that healthy environments play in helping children learn and thrive, Old Mutual Uganda has partnered with Spouts of Water to improve access to safe drinking water in three schools across Uganda.

Through the partnership, 24 water filters will be provided to Police Children’s School Kibuli, Kyanja View Primary School and Kitende Church of Uganda Primary School, with each school receiving eight filters. The initiative is expected to benefit approximately 1,950 learners by providing a more reliable source of filtered drinking water throughout the school day.

The partnership was launched at Police Children’s School Kibuli on 13th August, 2026, where eight water filters were handed over to the school as part of the initiative.

The support reflects Old Mutual Uganda’s broader commitment to promoting wellbeing and building healthier, more resilient communities. While financial security is an important part of wellbeing, access to essential services such as safe water also contributes to healthier communities and creates environments where children can learn and develop.

Daniel Opiyo, Head of Marketing & Distribution at Old Mutual Uganda, said the partnership demonstrates the importance of addressing the everyday conditions that influence community wellbeing.

“Access to safe drinking water is fundamental to the health and wellbeing of children. Creating resilient communities requires more than financial security; it also means supporting the conditions that enable people to live healthier and more fulfilling lives. Through the partnership with Spouts of Water, Old Mutual Uganda is supporting schools with a solution that can make a meaningful difference to learners every day. A healthier school environment can also support better participation and learning, reinforcing the connection between health, education and overall wellbeing,” he emphasized.

David Ngarambe, Country Director for Rwanda and Chief Commercial Officer at Spouts International, highlighted the value of collaboration in addressing essential community needs saying, “This partnership demonstrates what is possible when organisations come together around a shared purpose. By expanding access to safe drinking water in schools, the initiative addresses an essential need while contributing to healthier and more supportive learning environments for children.”

The schools will receive Purifaaya water filtration systems, designed to provide practical water filtration solutions for institutional environments. The institutional Purifaaya XL has a capacity of 75 litres and an average filtration rate of five litres per hour, providing schools with a sustainable solution for improving access to filtered drinking water.

The initiative also contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, while supporting SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 4: Quality Education.

At Police Children’s School Kibuli, the support is expected to contribute to a healthier and more supportive environment for learners.

Allen Muzaki, Headmistress of Police Children’s School Kibuli, welcomed the partnership and highlighted the importance of reliable access to safe drinking water.

She said, “Access to safe drinking water is essential to the health and wellbeing of our learners. The water filters will help the school provide safer drinking water throughout the school day and contribute to a healthier learning environment. The school appreciates the support from Old Mutual Uganda and Spouts of Water.”

The partnership with Spouts of Water forms part of Old Mutual Uganda’s broader commitment to supporting the wellbeing and resilience of the communities it serves.
