In addition to the earlier presented Ush10 Million towards COVID-19 relief efforts in the country, UAP Old Mutual Group Uganda led by Dr. William Kalema, the Chairman to the Board of UAP Old Mutual Life Assurance has today handed over to the National COVID-19 Taskforce another contribution of 100 hospital beds worth Ugsh 100 Million. The team was hosted at the Office of the Prime Minister where they were received by the Minister in Charge of General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister, Hon. Mary Karoro Okurut.
In her address, the Honourable minister noted that much as the President is looking for funding in form of vehicles, the 100 hospital beds have come in handy for the government to further equip the hospitals around the country as they handle all cases related to COVID-19.
The beds will be distributed to the various regional referral hospitals to help in improvement of healthcare during and after COVID-19 crisis.
The managing Director of UAP Old Mutual Insurance Uganda, Mr. Stephen Chikovore says, “TheBoard, Management and staff of UAP Old Mutual Group Uganda applaud and deeply appreciate the efforts of the Government of Uganda, particularly the Ministry of Health, in undertaking to control the further spread of this pandemic. We recognize that this fight is not only for Government but is upon all of us as a nation to stand together and support its efforts to fight COVID-19 in any way we can.”
It is in this spirit of solidarity and as a responsible business with heart, that the Group has committed resources towards improvement of the health facilities that they believe are a vital part in support of the nation towards managing the COVID-19 crisis.
The Chairman Board of UAP Old Mutual Life Assurance, Dr. Kalema. He further notes that “The purpose of the group since inception 175-years ago – to be a certain friend in uncertain times – has come to light through such activities and our commitment to supporting customers and stakeholders across Africa, where Uganda has not been left out.”
The Group also pledged to continue with awareness and sensitisation programs in the media to help and encourage the population to continue following the Ministry of Health guidelines and presidential directives that will help to stem the spread of COVID-19 in Uganda. Just as Uganda’s motto states, For God and my country, the Group stands together with the whole nation in this fight against COVID-19 and have faith that together we shall overcome.
