Uganda Insurers Association (UIA), the umbrella organization for all insurance companies in Uganda, hosted their annual Life Agent of the Year Awards at Golf course Hotel in Kampala on 26th April 2019. Established in 2011, the Life Agent of the Year awards acknowledge the contributions that life agents make towards growing the insurance industry in Uganda. Since their inception, the awards have progressively led to an improvement in the quality of individual life insurance business in Uganda.
Speaking at the awards, the Guest of Honor Director Supervision at Insurance Regulatory Authority Mr. Bernad Obel in his address said that ‘as we honor the best agents we should keep in mind that it's wonderful to be recognized as those recognized are potential servants.’ He further advised agents to exert all their efforts in meeting the needs of their clients and Thanked insurance institute of Uganda for installing ethics in the insurance agents that have groomed them into the winners that they are.
The Chairperson, Life and Pensions committee, Mr. Emmanuel Mwaka in his address noted that at the end of 2018, the industry had over 2,000 licensed agents and 8 licensed life insurance companies in Uganda. He noted that the agents should concentrate on sustainability and persistency approach to life assurance needs of our customers. Selling right will reduce rates of cancellation of policies and increase client benefits from life insurance. He further argued agents to treat their career with respect in addition to innovativeness as they sell life insurance in the market.
The awards were open to all life insurance member companies and were given in the following categories;
- Number of policies
- Best new agent
- Persistency over 24 months.
- Highest written premium
- Agent of the year.
UAP Old Mutual Life Assurance Uganda collected accolades in the categories of;
- Highest New business premium written 2018 award to Edgar Katsigwa
- 1st runner up- Agent of the year Award to Susan Sarah Acan.
- 1st Highest Persistency award- with 92% persistency over two years award to Edgar Katsigwa.
- 1st runner up - Highest number of policies for the year 2018 award to Sarah Susan Acan.
- 4th runner up- Best new agent in the industry-Nakiwala Bahana Grace.
